John, son of Zebedee, disciple of John the Baptist and later an apostle of Jesus Christ was a remarkable character. Though there is little recorded of him, internal and external sources reveal enough for the reader to share in the transformation that Christ and the Holy Spirit brought about during Johns’ lifetime. He was changed from a man whose boisterous personality once earned him the nickname of one of the sons of thunder, to becoming as he would later describe himself, the beloved disciple. By first looking at his relationship to Jesus, his character throughout the New Testament, and finally his own revelation concerning the Messiah we can see the wondrous change in the heart of a great man.
